First Nations Stream
Australia is a land with a proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage. In the spirit of reconciliation, paying our respect to Elders past and present, and acknowledging the original custodians of this fine country — specifically the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation on whose land ICC Sydney stands — we developed the First Nations stream.
We firmly believe that we have an obligation to celebrate and showcase the cultures of Australia’s First Nations. Through our partnerships with the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council (MLALC), KARI Foundation and Supply Nation, we offer connections to local First Nations businesses so that you can pay your respects and provide a rich cultural experience for your delegates.
Welcome to Country
ICC Sydney stands and operates on Gomora, land of the Gadigal clan of the Eora Nation. A Welcome to Country, which must be performed by an Aboriginal person, acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land in spirit of recognition and as demonstration of respect to their traditions, laws and customs.
Traditional welcomes can take many forms including speech, smoking ceremony, song or dance.
For a contemporary opening to your event, a First Nations cultural performance by the youth at KARI will delight and entertain your guests.
Discover the rich history of ICC Sydney's surrounding Cockle Bay and Tumbalong Park. These cultural tours with Aunty Margret from DreamTime SouthernX will educate your delegates with First Nations customs and traditions. We can also support you to connect your event with genuine First Nations businesses and Supply Nation.
