29 Jun 2018

Sydney’s longstanding reputation at the forefront of the world’s financial services sector has played a key role in enticing the prestigious US-based MDRT’s inaugural Global Conference here in September 2019.

MDRT was looking for a global city to host their first global conference, and Sydney’s proximity and appeal to their rapidly growing membership helped Sydney overcome competition from across the world.

The 2019 MDRT Global Conference – Sydney will see some 8,000 of the world’s top earning professionals in the sector join their Australian peers to exchange insights, share innovative practices and collaborate with the best in their profession.

“We are very excited to host our first-ever MDRT Global Conference in the global city of Sydney,” said President of MDRT, James D. Pittman. “As an association with a wide span of professional members from more than 70 nations and territories, MDRT truly appreciates what Sydney offers – great accessibility from all corners of the world, diverse and welcoming people, charming landmarks and exciting nightlife. We are looking forward to having a successful conference in this great metropolitan city.”

CEO of Business Events Sydney (BESydney), Lyn Lewis-Smith, said: “The world looks to Sydney as an ideal location to expand their conversations globally. We have the unique combination of business expertise, innovation, facilities and event management experience, and a glorious location on the world stage.”

“For events attracting corporate leaders like this one, it also provides an excellent opportunity to provide a first-hand experience of Sydney should they be looking for destinations to reward, motivate and inspire their teams through events, conferences and incentive programs in the future.”

Geoff Donaghy, CEO of International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), said:  “Collaboration, world class facilities and premium services were key to attracting the cream of the crop of the world’s highest performing financial professionals to ICC Sydney.  We look forward to rolling out the red carpet for MDRT members during their inaugural event in the Asia Pacific Region.”

With MDRT’s membership taking in 500 companies in 72 countries, 98 per cent of the delegates are expected to be international, generating in excess of A$19m to the local economy.

Previous speakers include Bill McDermott, CEO of SAP, one of the world’s leading business software companies; and motivational speakers Bill Gates and Amanda Gore.

Sydney, the Asia Pacific’s financial and professional services hub, has a strong track record in attracting large-scale financial services events such as the World Congress of Accountants 2018, the recently-announced 2019 World Forum for Foreign Direct Investment, and Sibos in 1997, 2006, and again later this year.
