07 Jun 2016

ICC Sydney is the centrepiece of the NSW Government’s $3.4 billion revitalisation of Darling Harbour, which has just received the highest available rating for master-planned precincts in Australia, demonstrating ‘World Leadership, by achieving a 6 Star Green Star Communities (v1) rating from the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA)’.

The revitalisation of ICC Sydney and ICC Sydney Hotel precinct within Darling Harbour includes:

  • three interconnected and flexible buildings that can host world class conventions, exhibitions and entertainment events
  • vibrant public spaces centred around the expanded green space of Tumbalong Park and links the waterfront to the city and its surrounds by a bustling boulevard and pedestrian connections
  • 35,000sqm of internal exhibition space and 5,000sqm of open air event deck
  • 35 storey, 600 room luxury accommodation managed by Sofitel of AccorHotels.

The Darling Square neighbourhood as well as ICC Sydney and the ICC Sydney Hotel, was assessed for its sustainability performances across five impact categories – Governance, Innovation, Liveability, Economic Prosperity and the Environment. High scoring sustainable concepts include Australia’s largest electric car charging facilities at ICC Sydney’s exhibition car park, and the nation’s first community funded and Australia’s largest CBD roof top solar array.

Geoff Donaghy, CEO of ICC Sydney, said “A revitalisation of the public domain benchmarks ICC Sydney’s sustainability measures within a waterfront location as a leading world class destination for business and entertainment events.

“The smart design of ICC Sydney delivers a range of environmentally and socially sustainable solutions and we intend to amplify these strategies through our management of the venue during our preopening, test event and operating phases,” he said.

GBCAs Chief Executive Officer, Romilly Madew, said, “Our cities are more than engine rooms of economic growth – they are also at the frontline as we tackle many of the world’s challenges, from how we mitigate climate change to how we harness our human capital. Darling Harbour is the latest expression of Lendlease’s commitment to ensuring sustainable outcomes for people and the environment rank alongside economic outcomes. Darling Harbour’s regeneration will create a positive legacy for future generations, with a 6 Star Green Star – communities rating providing the positive reinforcement that this development is sustainable.
