ICC Sydney Strengthens Commitment to Regional Winemakers

06 Aug 2020

International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) is once again showcasing its ongoing commitment to local winemakers as sponsor and host of the 2020 NSW Wine Awards, taking place at the venue this October.

The partnership with the NSW Wine Industry Association builds on ICC Sydney’s support for the state’s local wine industry and is more important than ever in the wake of the devastating impact that this year’s bushfires and COVID-19 has had on the industry.

Chief Judge Dave Brookes will once again lead a team of expert judges, including ICC Sydney’s Beverage Operations and Cellar Manager, William Wilson. Over three days, these leading figures of Australian wine will taste hundreds of wines to decide New South Wales’ finest drops.

CEO of ICC Sydney, Geoff Donaghy, said his team is proud to be hosting the NSW Wine Awards for a second year in a row, and to support the state’s winemakers during such a difficult year.

“This year has thrown many challenges at the New South Wales wine industry. It is a great sadness for ICC Sydney that, as a result of the impact of COVID-19, we have not been able to purchase from our local producers and showcase their world class wines as we normally would”.

Donaghy continues, “However, we remain completely committed to our state’s exceptional winemakers, especially as they work towards recovery from this year’s devastation. Our partnership with the NSW Wine Industry Association to host the awards is a significant way in which we are continuing this commitment, building on our 100% New South Wales produced wine menu and helping to raise the profile of these producers on the national and global stage”.

Mark Bourne, President of the NSW Wine Industry Association, added, “We are delighted to continue our partnership with ICC Sydney, not only on the 2020 NSW Wine Awards, but also to continue to ensure that the ICC Sydney is the focal point for showcasing the quality and diversity of NSW wines to their guests. Whilst 2020 has been a year of challenges so far, we are excited to be able to recognise and reward the best in NSW wines and thank CEO Geoff Donaghy and the dedicated team at ICC Sydney for their ongoing support”.

The 2020 NSW Wine Awards is open for entries until 21 August 2020. For details visit their website.
