CEO Update – September 2021

06 Sep 2021

The protracted crisis has been a transformative situation globally. Although the current circumstances present an obstacle on our long and winding road to recovery, they have reminded us of the criticality of communication, the power of connection and importance of nurturing relationships.

After all, human connection is at the heart of successful, engaging and memorable events — though at present technology provides the scaffolding to support these connections. Although technology cannot fully replace the serendipitous moments that occur at face to face gatherings, it does support and maintain essential lines of communication – with our customers, our stakeholders and our team.

To connect you with our team and showcase a number of compelling and successful events, we invite you to join ICC Sydney’s Events in Focus – A conversational webinar series. Through this conversational series, ICC Sydney and featured guests discuss what it takes to deliver highly engaging events. Your host will explore the planning process, best practice solutions to complex challenges and lessons learned when organising a digital event. To register to attend the first webinar in the series, see: https://iccsydney.jomablue.com/reg/store/events_in_focus/

At ICC Sydney, our people are central to our success. Our organisation and the dynamic business events industry it operates in provide rewarding and durable career opportunities. Our commitment to delivering world class service is the driving force behind successful career pathways.

We know that periods of great change and transformation bring about opportunities for growth. To this end, we recently announced several promotions including that of our Director of Human Resources, Luke Fleming. Luke has been an integral member of the venue’s team, having joined prior to opening and has helped manage the venue’s workforce for the last five years.

Dana Fish’s promotion to Senior Manager, Business Development ensures our national association clients will benefit not only from her six years’ contribution in our organisation, but in drawing upon her extensive experience nurturing ICC Sydney’s international market, which she was a key part of establishing, working with association and corporate clients based in Asia, Europe and North American markets.

ICC Sydney’s industry advocacy efforts have continued through our support of the Business Events Council of Australia’s #GiveBEashot campaign which amplifies the Australian Federal Government’s broad-reaching vaccination efforts. Furthermore, through the Sydney Business Events Coalition we have convened with our key industry groups, we support and encourage industry dialogue around a vaccine certification system.

For comprehensive and effective EventSafe solutions that can be factored into your future event delivery, we invite you to discuss your plans with your dedicated ICC Sydney event manager.

To support Sydney to vaccinate, a number of our vaccinated team members are working at Australia’s largest vaccination centre located at our sister venue, Qudos Bank Arena. The opportunity to contribute customer service and event skills, while supporting visitors to receive their vaccine has been most rewarding for our team.

Never before has it been more important to recognise the people of our resilient, agile and exciting industry.  Each week, we will reintroduce you to a key member of the ICC Sydney team via our social media channels in Our Extraordinary People series. In each edition, we proudly spotlight the efforts and experience that our team members provide in their area of specialty. We welcome you to follow ICC Sydney’s LinkedIn page for updates.

In these times of uncertainty, ICC Sydney’s focus on the future remains steadfast. We invite you to reach out to us — to discuss your event plans or to ask any questions you may have or to simply let us know how you are.
We look forward to reconnecting with you.

Geoff Donaghy, CEO, ICC Sydney
