Event Attendance Numbers On The Rise

31 Aug 2017

International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) is helping to set new event attendance records with clients citing Australia’s premier convention, exhibition and entertainment venue as key to delivering unprecedented visitor numbers.

This month ICC Sydney has confirmed boosted attendance figures for events across multiple sectors. The recent Sydney International Boat Show attracted more than 63,000 admissions and the Australasian Gaming Expo, the nation’s largest gaming machine technology industry event, saw visitor numbers rise by 19 per cent year on year to 8,100 attendees over three days.

The trend is also reflected in the business events sector, with the Royal College of Pathologists Australasia’s (RCPA) Pathology Update 2017 seeing an 18 per cent jump in anticipated turn out, attracting a record 1,400 delegates from around the world.

Geoff Donaghy, CEO of ICC Sydney, attributes the success of these events to the collaborative approach his team takes with clients to utilise the venue’s industry leading facilities.

“ICC Sydney is a $1.5 billion venue that offers a range of flexible spaces that can be configured to accommodate even the most complex event programs and set ups. Beyond our infrastructure however, it’s our clients and ICC Sydney’s expert team who create events that people want to experience.

“Since opening in December 2016, we’ve hosted more than 400 events and delivered countless bespoke solutions, including the placement of the 42ft Boston Whaler boat and swimming pools on our 5,000sqm Event Deck and even transforming the ICC Sydney Theatre into a tennis court.”

In another example of event success, Reed Gift Fairs, Australia’s biggest gift and homewares fair, reported 23 per cent more attendees than previous years at its five-day event in February.

Stephen Steenson, Group Director of Operations at Reed Exhibitions, said the success of Reed Gift Fairs was a testament to the work ethic and commitment of the ICC Sydney team and its partners.

“Our entire industry watched on, monitoring the outcome of the move in and the opening days, and were overwhelmed and impressed with the delivery, presentation, quality of products, features and skill of each discipline. We created the WOW factor we aspired to achieve.”

In addition to the rise in delegate numbers, the venue’s Feeding Your Performance culinary philosophy, which sees it create menus designed to aid mental and physical performance, has helped ensure event success.

Eve Propper, Events and Sponsorship Manager at the RCPA, noted: “It’s fantastic to see a venue like ICC Sydney take an industry leading stance and embrace medical research to inform its approach. It has done a great job in bringing health and wellbeing to the fore as a key industry issue.

“Attendees were absolutely blown away and the staff handled the increase in guests effortlessly. The quality of speakers, facilities, and service were truly world class. We look forward to returning for Pathology Update 2018.”

Donaghy said that the current event statistics are only set to grow, with ICC Sydney already having confirmed more than 900 events and hosted over 820,000 delegates.

“ICC Sydney is a world class offer, underpinning Sydney’s reputation as a leading global events destination. By bringing international and interstate visitors to the city, the venue is fast reaching its anticipated contribution of A$5 billion over 25 years to the NSW economy, supporting a better future for the city, State and country.”
