01 Jun 2016

Sydney cements global ICT reputation

IT leaders will converge upon ICC Sydney over five days in 2017 for cloud computing’s single largest gathering, OpenStack Summit. It will be the first international ICT event to be held at ICC Sydney following a successful collaborative bid win with Business Events Sydney (BESydney).

ICC Sydney’s CEO, Geoff Donaghy, said “OpenStack will allow us to showcase our state-of-the-art technology within our venue, cementing ICC Sydney as the future global Information and Communication Technology hub. Our team look forward to opening our doors to 5,000 delegates from more than 50 countries including IT leaders and developers, Telco operators and users, app developers and administrators of OpenStack Cloud Software”.

NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Stuart Ayres, said “OpenStack has found a great partner in Sydney, we have a global reputation for supporting innovation, the biggest start-up ecosystem in Australia and a strong open source community”.

“The summit will be worth over $16 million in direct expenditure to the State, which is additional to the benefits it will bring to the New South Wales (NSW) innovation and the ICT sector” he said.

OpenStack Summit contributes to ICC Sydney’s successful bid wins which include 40 major international conventions and 50 exhibitions during the venue’s pre-opening phase. Associations and event planners from across the world are set to experience our venue’s cutting edge facilities and integrated precinct offerings in the heart of Sydney and its gateway to its distinguished research, scientific and technology communities.

Opening in December 2016, ICC Sydney is Australia’s premier convention, exhibition and entertainment precinct.
